One word: classic. Even five music legends (and Jessica Simpson) couldn’t save the sh*t storm that was – nipplegate. This infamous half-time performance saw Janet Jackson have just a tiny wardrobe malfunction when her whole boob came out while dancing with Justin Timberlake. Nelly’s Hot in Here was on point though.

The queen of pop always delivers, and her Super Bowl set was nothing short of iconic. It would be another three years until she fell off a stage wearing a cape, but her epic costumes and choreography still gave us plenty to talk about.

This was hands down the most iconic Super Bowl performance in recent history - and we say that with confidence. It's no secret that Prince was a great performer but he truly exceeded all expectations with this one. I mean, he did a bloody Foo Fighters cover for crying out loud - no one saw that coming. And then he broke into an epic guitar solo in the middle of Purple Rain, all in the midst of a torrential rainstorm in Miami. That's talent.

This one is memorable for all the wrong reasons but we love it all the same. Britney's skintight silver football trousers, N' Sync's robotic dance moves (FYI, we totally thought this was cool at the time) and that Walk This Way finale. What a time to be a live - and cringing!

Michael Jackson was no stranger to flawless TV performances - but this one is up there with his best. Performing a medley of his hits – Billie Jean, We Are the World and Black or White (which was new-ish at the time), he made headlines for "reclaiming" his throne as the King Of Pop. He closed the show with a beautiful version of Heal the World.

"Come on, world!" Diana Ross says while getting lowered to the stage on a platform made of sparklers. "We're gonna take you higher! At the Super, Super, Super Bowl!" And that she does. Performing a medley of Supremes classics, the disco diva brought all the fun, judging by the reaction of the audience. That was all before she casually set off on a helicopter that landed in the middle of the stage, after announcing "Oh my, here comes my ride!" Ah, what a woman.

It's not every day we see Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Beyonce all on the same stage, so this was truly unreal. However, as you can expect, Beyonce well and truly stole the show (and the headlines) with her politically-charged performance of Formation, where she and her dancers were dressed as black panthers. Take a bow, Bey!

We knew we could count on Katy to bring the crazy and as she arrived on a giant golden lion, we weren’t disappointed. The surprise highlight of the show was Missy Elliot’s return to the spotlight for their duet of Get Ur Freak On. So great.

No one puts on a live show quite like Queen Bey. She's one of the only (if not the only) artist who makes you question whether she's actually human or an all-singing, all-dancing (at the same time!) robot with superpowers - none of which would surprise us. Her 2013 Super Bowl extravaganza was incredible for so many reasons, but mainly because of all the hilarious memes it brought us. Thank you, Beyonce, for those unforgettable facial expressions - they've gone down in history.

If anyone doubted Gaga’s talent before last year’s Super Bowl they were seriously proven wrong. From Poker Face to Telephone, she showed off her flawless performance skills for 13 minutes straight, and we could watch it on repeat forever.
